It’s been a little over a week since Ken Ober passed away. I’ve waited a while to post this but I think that even if I did post it right away it would have been fine because I feel like this would have made Ken laugh really hard. It’s a photo of a Twitter comment I got, regarding Ken. The sentiment is genuine and the profile picture is incredible.

It’s easy to feel shitty.

It’s hard sometimes to remember that you’re living in the greatest city in the world and you’ve got great people to share your life with.

I’ve got no money, no lady, no career… it’d be easy to cry myself to sleep.

But fuck that! I’ve got good friends and a roof over my head. My “day job” puts me in direct contact with the coolest and funniest people I’ve ever known. My dreams are possible; and I’m enjoying the ride.

Bring it on, life.

Thanks for being ridiculous and amazing.

I have seen Bjork in person so many times, yet never in concert. I think she is incredible. I wish I could see her in concert.

Every time I see her its always doing something so normal (getting coffee, buying books at Barnes & Noble) that it freaks me out.

I want to yell “get out of here Bjork, go do something BANANAS!!!”

I like to think that Bjork does normal things, but in her head she wishes she could pay for books with raisins and use rainbows as taxis. Like she puts up with real life, but wishes it was better.

I’m rambling, but I love Bjork.

I know I missed out on the previous discussion of Muppet Christmas Carol, but mine just came in the mail. I haven’t seen it in so long!! I love that movie, and since there doesn’t seem to be any more video stores left in manhattan, I’ll have to purchase my favorites.

I might also need to purchase home alone 2. and Elf, which I have never seen.

You know what else I’d really like, a compilation of the christmas episodes of sitcoms. Like Roseanne, and married with children, Friends, TGIF shows, heck, that depressing My So Called Life christmas episode might do it for me as well.

Love this one, but you should also try and see Muppet Family Christmas, too. It’s my personal favorite Christmas movie.

I got called out to talk about being ballsy.

In 1997, I went to a GWAR concert. I dislike GWAR, but some friends loved them. And I had a car. So I went.

A group of maybe 40 people were there protesting. They said hateful things to us; we said hateful things to them. No big deal.

Until one of them threw a bottle and hit my friend Ann in the head. She was 5 feet tall at the time and weight MAYBE 100 pounds.

I turned around and challenged them to a fight. Not the guy who did it, or the 2 guys who took credit. All of them. They yelled and screamed and threw bottles at me. And I just kept demanding they fight me.

And they backed down, not me. I stood my fucking ground. I would have fought all of them. I was 17 and stupid. But it seems like the perfect time in my life for me to have the biggest balls I’ve ever had.

If you missed Dreadnought’s “Improv With Elvis” show at Daioh Sushi last night, this two-minute clip will give you a pretty good idea of how it went down.

This event would have pissed me off. If I had been a customer at Daioh Sushi, my waiter/waitress wouldn’t have gotten a tip. And I wouldn’t be a customer again.

Because I would have gone to that place to have dinner with friends… or a date (!)… oh man, I would be so mad. Even if I went alone, I would have hated the distraction. That’s what that improv set would have been to me: a huge distraction to my meal and the conversation I was attempting to have.

I’ll back up Pat on this one. If you’re saying that’s how it went down, then it doesn’t sound like people were there to watch you, which is why you had to spend two minutes demanding their attention.

Likewise, if you’re doing a show like this, it is presumptuous to demand that anybody pay attention to you before you’ve done anything to prove you’re worth their time. Especially because, unlike a high school classroom, you’re not even supposed to be there.

I believe management hired them. There’s nothing presumptuous about performing where you were asked to perform.

Additionally, they’re not interupting anybody’s dinner. They were hired by the owner of the restaurant to accompany the dinner performance. If the owner didn’t properly advertise that to patrons, it’s on him.

Oh, they’re certainly interrupting people’s dinner. They’re fighting for attention. Who’s shushing in the beginning of the recording? The performers? Or the people there who are in on the joke? Either way, the customer didn’t go to a sushi restaurant to watch improv.

The presumption is in the eye of the “audience” member who didn’t ask to be an audience member.
